Laurette Langille's original song Three Cards was released in 1994 on the Wade In The Rain Records CD titled a seamless connection. The compilation featured twelve northwest songwriters and cover art by Rebecca Maloy (Maloy's piece used as the cover is titled Water and is copyright 1998). Wade Larsen executive produced the project and mastering was by Lea Anne Sonenstein at Airshow Inc., Springfield VA. Three Cards was originally recorded and mixed in the northwest by Jeff Lindeman at Soundwave Recording Studio in Birch Bay, WA.
Story behind the song: The lyrics for Three Cards were inspired by a comment made by Bellingham southsider Dave Pacheco when he was bartending at Cal's Tavern in Fairhaven. Laurette was complaining about something and David wryly commented "The way I see it, you've only got three choices. Change it, accept it, or let it go."

I will not stumble anymore will not let my love fall back where it's fallen before You would never have had me if I were that weak easily fooled by romance or mystique I will not allow my love to hurt me this time
And it's better I leave right now, with all that I own with this pittance of knowledge it's taken my lifetime to grow Honey I can't change how you feel and you never break that first love bond sealed It's better to leave right now than pretend things change when I stay
I only got just three cards, three plays I know I can change, accept or go... Ooo and I go...
Once I had a dream, long before we met and I still hold it dear to my heart you haven't envisioned it yet I've never had the patience to teach or the certainty of my dreams to preach It's better to leave and remember than stay and forget...
I only got just three cards, three plays I know I can change, accept or go...
