Laurette Langille is recognized throughout the Northwest as a firey and soulful acoustic blues woman. She has received several nominations from the Washington Blues Society over the years as "Best Female Blues Vocalist" and "Best Acoustic Guitar". Laurette was the only Northwest women included in the 1992 Seattle Opera House "Women in the Blues Tradition" concert in the company of Etta Baker, Jessie Mae Hemphill and Del Rey.
Axiom Records included Laurette Langille on their 1993 CD release "Seattle Rhythm & Blues, Vol. 1," a presitigious compilation presenting 19 of the most potent Northwest rhythm & blues acts. Laurette is one of only two solo performers on the release, and the only women guitarist. Her solo cut, Won't Kill Me, displays her signature stinging slide guitar and smokey, sultry vocals. The song would later be re-released on Seattle Women in Rhythm & Blues "Backporch Gossip" CD and again on Raw Records "Best of Seattle Blues, Vol. 1."
Three Cards, an original tune by Laurette Langille, was released in 1994 on the Washington songwriters compilation, "A Seamless Connection" (Wade in the Rain Records).
Performances by Langille include both traditional and original material, slide guitar, finger picking and her powerful vocals. This combination of talent has made her an enduring favorite at regional festivals including Bumbershoot, NW Folklife, Winthrop Rhythm & Blues Festival as well as numerous venues and concert series.
Laurette grew up in Lewis County, Washington, the youngest of five daughters. She was always a performer, beginning with her older sisters garage theatre productions of fairy tales and going on through theatre productions at LCB and WWU. Her interest in singing and playing guitar really blossomed when she began performing at open mikes and coffeehouses. The enthused response to her blues and jazz encouraged her to develop her own vocal and guitar style which has earned Laurette's nickname the blues lady.
As a solo performer or accompanied by other musicians, Laurette Langille is a dynamic entertainer and a versatile artist.
